Registration Removal (Adults and Juveniles)

  • Convictions for certain adult sex offenses, and all juvenile sex offenses, require a court's permission to terminate the obligation to register as a sex offender. Ms. Muth has successfully petitioned courts throughout Western Washington to terminate sex offender registration for her clients, including in King County, Kitsap County, Pierce County, Thurston County, and Snohomish County, Franklin County and Walla County courts.

Juvenile Sex Offender Leveling/Classifications Decisions (level I, II, or III)

  • Ms. Muth has assisted juvenile clients with issues related to how the juvenile’s sex offender classification levels are set, including through working with law enforcement to reduce a juvenile’s classification level, bringing writs to challenge the juvenile’s classification level, and challenging the sheriff’s office’s determination that a juvenile with an out-of-state sex offense conviction was required to register in Washington State. Ms. Muth pursued a writ of certiorari against sheriff's office to challenge a sex offender leveling decision. One week prior to hearing, the sheriff's office conceded the issue and reclassified the client as requested.

Sex Offender Leveling/Classification Decisions (level I, II, or III)

  • Ms. Muth has assisted clients with issues related to how her clients' sex offender classification levels are set, including through working with law enforcement to reduce a sex offender's classification level and bringing writs to challenge sex offender classification. Challenging these classification decisions through court, in particular, is a lengthy, complicated process, requiring extensive briefing and fact gathering.
