As of November 1, 2023, most juveniles will no longer have to register as a sex offender and be eligible to seal their convictions. Law enforcement will start removing eligible people from the registry soon and mailing letters confirming they have been removed. If you receive a letter indicating that you have been removed from the registry, please contact our office for a free consultation to determine if you are eligible to seal your offense.

What factors might increase the risks of youth violence?

Many parents might be aware that their children may be subject to various sources of influence each day. However, this might not mean that parents in Washington always fully grasp how these sources might affect their children’s actions and decisions. Youth violence continues to be a growing concern for many, and knowing the factors that might increase the risks thereof could help parents find ways to address the issues at hand and safeguard the futures of their kids.

Source of influence

When it comes to sources of influence for children, studies suggest that media may be one of the most common culprits. Studies indicate that children who are exposed to violence on media outlets may be more inclined to exhibit aggressive behaviors. Studies also state that this influence might not be limited to violent video games, but may include tv shows, movies, music and even advertising campaigns.

Experts also indicate that children who live in areas in which violence is more prevalent or who do not receive sufficient supervision may also be more susceptible to encountering similar issues. Mental illness and substance abuse can also be contributing factors to youthful violence. In some cases, youths may also be more likely to exhibit such behaviors when exposed to peer pressure or after experiencing a traumatic event in life.

The fallout

No matter how it happens, events involving youth violence could take a devastating toll on a child’s life and future. When youths face legal troubles stemming from similar issues, parents in Washington may find it helpful to consult with an attorney as soon as possible for insight on their options and the best course of action to take. An attorney can help address all of a client’s concerns, provide insight on what to expect from the process, and assist in creating a strategy to pursue the most favorable outcome possible regarding his or her child’s future through the proper channels.
