While it may be illegal for teenagers to purchase or drink alcohol, this might not always stop youths from finding ways to get their hands on alcoholic beverages. Unfortunately, underage drinking could take a toll on a youth’s life in various ways, potentially leading to issues with substance abuse or with delinquent behavior. Knowing how to identify some red flags of underage drinking could help parents in Washington prepare to talk to their kids about the risks involved and help them cultivate healthier life habits.

Examples of red flags

Studies suggest there may be various types of red flags that might indicate the presence of underage drinking. For instance, youths who take part in such behaviors may be more prone to exhibiting sudden changes in mood, such as increased levels of irritability or issues with anger. Studies also indicate that teens who struggle with alcohol abuse may also exhibit rebellious behaviors, or they might show a sudden indifference to their appearances.

Drops in performance at school and issues with truancy could also be signs that teens may be struggling with similar issues. Watching for signs such as a loss of interest in previous hobbies could also be helpful in addressing any underlying concerns. Changes in memory, concentration, or coordination may also be red flags to watch for regarding underage alcohol consumption.

Underage drinking

Many youthful individuals might not fully grasp how issues with underage drinking could affect their lives. Aside from the possible health risks involved, similar concerns could also lead to delinquent behaviors that could leave a youth facing various legal challenges. Parents in Washington who wish to protect the well-being of their kids might benefit from speaking with an attorney for advice on ways to address the issues at hand and guidance on the next steps to take should their child stand accused of involvement in unlawful activity.
